I have my students building a crane for the upcoming Fall Festival here in Chengdu. They just started building it this week and have made some progress. We decided to keep it low to keep the center of gravity close to the ground to prevent it from tipping over. It will be used to lift up a gift from a box on the ground.
They decided to use a wood chair instead of a metal chair because it’s easier to attach parts to the wood chair. We have off from school next week and I hope to have them continue to build this project crane.
We put some more wood underneath to reinforce the boom part of the crane. Luckily we had some long screws on hand to attach the wood.
As you can see, they attached wheels to the bottom so the crane can move around a bit. We will restrict the motion by building a circular device that will be placed on the ground.
