My name is Kevin Smith and I am an AP Statistics, AP Physics and IB Mathematics teacher at an international school in Chengdu, China. I enjoy teaching science and mathematics and I like to include blogs and other technology into my teaching of science and mathematics. I have previously taught Physics and Precalculus in Siem Reap, Cambodia and Pennsylvania, USA.
Teaching is a second career for me as I was employed as a scientist in the pharmaceutical industry in New Jersey, USA. I also worked in a quality control lab environment testing many of the raw materials. I also worked as a junior scientist in the semiconductor industry, working with and developing photoresist. While working as a scientist, I became interested in becoming a science and mathematics teacher.
I have been teaching math and science for over twenty years and I have continued my studies in science and math education earning 18 post graduate credits in various classes for my professional development. I also earned my Graduate Gemologist ( G.G.) degree in New York City from the Gemological Institute of America.
My current areas of self study are statistics in education using the R programming language. I recently completed an online graduate level statistics course at Loyola Marymount University in California. My hobbies include learning to play drums, photography, learning the Bisaya language, and computer programming in R.
My background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Master of Education in Science Education from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.
